Your social network influence.
Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.
- Napoleon Hill
No matter what we do, someone or something influences us whether direct or indirect. It can be as simple as those street vendors in Baclaran, when you suddenly thought that someday you should not be like them. It can be also a celebrity that you adore so much and you’re being inspired by his/her fashion sense. Lastly, It can be a blogger, who inspires you to share more about yourself rather than being dependent on what is trending.
In a positive or negative way those thoughts that eventually becomes our opinion to a particular experience or choice is somehow what we call “influence”. It is defined in the dictionary as the capacity or power of people or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions of others.
Before, expression is pretty much limited via the three traditional media methods, namely the print, television and radio. Unlike now, people during this generation enjoys the perks of the invented technology by sharing information faster than those mentioned above. However, aren’t we abusing it so much?
Spider Man once said, “With the great power, comes with a great responsibility”. True indeed. Given that you’re gaining a lot of followers because of your witty style in blogging or insanely beautiful face won’t do good if you’re not doing something good with the “power” that you have. Again, you have the “influence”, why don’t you go use it for something else productive? Something else worthy? Something else that will feed their mind and not their insecurity bucket.
We’re processing more than 34 GB worth of information every single day. It’s too much, right? Life in 2012 is much more busier compared to 1992. 10 years ago we don’t have stable internet connection, there’s no Tumblr, Twitter or Facebook that overloads or brain with tons and tons of information. We also don’t have internet on our phones too!
The point is this. In which side are you? Those people who pollute or those people who cleans up? Those people who use their influence to other people for something worth reading for. Let us not be a part of the internet waste land that is being produced by non-sense mainstream trends and gimmicks. Let us do something productive for our own country. For our own land. For something that will be eventually ours as well.
Let us also inculcate that advance technology is not only here to make our lives easier. But it also here for us to make something good out of it.
If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person’s life in a positive light, and that’s what I want to do. That’s what it’s all about.
